Leiko Uchiyama hails from Japan and has traveled worldwide teaching the art of felt making. A graduate of Animal Science at the University of Obihiro, she became fascinated with wool production and the wide range of sheep breeds. She began felting in 1992 with an innovative approach that has resulted in a truly distinctive style, not only through the techniques employed, but also in the aesthetic sensitivity to materials, form and function. Leiko’s work explores the potential of felt within twenty first century craft practice.
